With autumn just around the corner, it’s time to start warming up some of those delicious fall comfort foods. Dishes such as butternut squash, pumpkin pie, and yes, even baked apples, will have your guests’ mouths watering this season. Using your commercial microwave is a much faster and easier alternative to baking or frying when you want to cook apples. You can eat the cooked apples plain right out of the microwave, or use them to make anything from applesauce to microwave apple crisp. Here is how to cook baked apples in your commercial microwave perfectly every time:

Commercial Food Equipment

Step 1: Wash & Core Your Apples

First, wash your apples using cold water. Next, core the apples with a fruit and vegetable peeler by inserting the peeler into the middle of the apple and giving it a few twists. Pull or ‘pop’ the centre of the apple out and peel the skin off the apples, if desired.

Step 2: Cut Your Apples & Prepare Your Dish

Slice your apples to your preferred thickness using a sharp knife and a cutting board. Next, spray a thin coat of cooking spray oil or add 1-2 tablespoons of water to the bottom of a microwave-safe dish. Take your apple slices and spread them in an even layer across the bottom of the dish. Cover the dish tightly in plastic wrap and place inside your commercial microwave oven.

Step 3: Use Your Commercial Cooking Equipment To Cook The Apples

Cook your apples in your microwave for 3-5 minutes, or until the apples feel tender. To test, take the dish out of your commercial microwave and insert a fork in one of the apple slices. If it doesn’t feel soft all the way through, return the dish to the microwave and cook in 30-60 second intervals until done. Finally, feel free to add your favourite seasonings, such as cinnamon, sugar, and nutmeg, to the dish when it is complete.
